AAJA Chicago presents
Off the Record: A Conversation About Mental Health
Wednesday, April 21, 7:30-8:30 pm CST

The murder of eight people in Atlanta — including six Asian women — one month ago marks one of a growing number of recent anti-Asian attacks, building on a long history of racism and violence. Now more than ever, it’s important that we look out for each other and for the health and safety of our communities.

For the first time, AAJA Chicago will host a facilitated group discussion led by Olivia Yang, a licensed psychotherapist in Chicago. Olivia will share her thoughts on the trauma that anti-Asian racism can cause, and then open the floor to participants for an honest conversation about mental health. This discussion, open only to Asian American and Pacific Islander journalists in the Chicago area, will serve as a safe space for folks to share their feelings, experiences and thoughts — whether personal or professional.

This 60-minute group session will be free to members and non-members who are AAPI journalists. At the beginning, Olivia will go over guidelines and a community agreement to ensure conversations stay private and safe.
