7:15-8:30 pm: Learn how to explore data and craft pitches based on your beat in this hands-on data journalism workshop with Jasmine Mithani.

ABOUT OUR PRESENTERS

Mike Reilley is an SPJ digital trainer who has taught Google News Initiative tools to more than 6,500 journalists and educators in the past four years. He also is founder of and trainer in the Penny Press Digital LLC, a consulting and training company. When he’s not doing trainings, he teaches data and multimedia journalism at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he has been a full-time faculty member for five years.

Jasmine Mithani (she/her) is a reader, writer, and diagrammer currently working as a visual journalist at FiveThirtyEight. She is also on the board of South Side Weekly, where she got her start in journalism. She’s wrangled data and made information accessible to the public as a part of DataMade, NPR and Graphicacy.
